In this series of posts, we’ll be bringing you glimpses into the devising process for The Trojan Women Project. The thirteen performers involved often wrote poems, songs, dialogues, and movement pieces on the theme and ideas being explored in the rehearsal room. Sometimes they were created in the spur of the moment and other times director Rachel Hynes gave them prompts to go away and work on and then return with material. This piece was written by Francesca Marie Chilcote who played Jessica. If you’ve seen The Trojan Women Project you’ll recognize many of these phrases and ideas as this piece was repurposed by director Rachel Hynes into a series of choruses of “women’s language.”

by Francesca Marie Chilcote
I’m so sorry!
Does that make sense?
Let’s all have dinner
So you start with garlic and onions.
Just put a little extra olive oil in.
Bake for 30 minutes on 350
I could be wrong.
I’m not sure
It’s just an idea
Do you have time?
SO!
Okay!
I feel as if…
I don’t know if you’ve tried this already, but
Just mix some water and white vinegar and a few drops of essential oils!
You can put that in your hair as a mask!
It needs some salt.
It’s almost done!
I’m hungry again.

You didn’t have to go through all that trouble
My mom used to do my hair like this.
How old is he?

That sounds ok.

Can you get that?
That’s ok, I can get that
That’s all right.

Do you mind if?
Don’t worry.
I’m willing to go down if it’s not in the budget.
I can take notes.
I’m on my way already, I can do that.
I do it for the love.
Yeah?
Right?
Like?
Over it!
I can’t take all the credit, but it was my idea.

Sorry. I’m trying not to say like anymore.
Fuck, I keep apologizing. Sorry.
